About this tool

AoE4 Building Placement Guide is a free browser tool for planning and practising base layouts in Age of Empires IV. Pick a civilization, drop houses, mills, farms, barracks, towers and landmarks around your Town Center on a tile grid, and see each building's real footprint, attack range, influence area and aura before you try it in game.

  • Building footprints in tiles, costs, garrison, attack range (the longest weapon or emplacement), influence areas and auras.
  • Build menu laid out like the in-game grid, with the default grid hotkeys: Q / W / E / R opens an age, then the building key.
  • Tower emplacements (arrowslits, springald, cannon and civ variants) and Japanese Town Center upgrades through right-click or long-press.
  • Gold veins and stone outcroppings; Pit Mines and Ovoos snap onto them.
  • Multi-select, group move, remove mode, undo / redo, and named blueprints saved in your browser.
  • English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Works on desktop and phones.

How to use

  1. Choose your civilization from the flag menu.
  2. Pick a building in the panel (or press Q / W / E / R and the building key) and click the map to place it. Keep clicking to place more; press Esc or Done to stop.
  3. Drag buildings to move them. Shift/Ctrl+click or drag a box to select several.
  4. Right-click (long-press on phones) a tower or Japanese Town Center to add emplacements or upgrades, or to remove a building.
  5. Name and save your layout under My blueprints to come back to it later.
